Although apps can be downloaded and installed on devices by anyone, students can only be assigned to a specific course on a device, in person, by the owner of the account. This can be problematic if the owner of the account is remote and not physically able to access the student’s device.
The Course Transfer Tool transfers ownership of a course and allows changes in the permissions of who can access and edit the student gradebook.
For example, a teacher may have ownership of a course, but works remotely with a student. The course would need to be transferred to the account of the parent so the parent can set up and manage the course on the student’s device. However, the teacher may need to keep access to the gradebook, so the permissions can be adjusted to allow for that. Another example might be that a parent purchases a course but wants another person to take full control of the course, including setting it up and managing it on the student’s device, and monitoring the gradebook, so they can use the tool to transfer the course and all permissions to a different account.
Option 1: For schools, keep all students and permissions under the teacher's account.
- The students and teacher must download and install the course apps onto all of their personal devices that they will use to access their courses, however; the teacher has to set up each student’s course on the student’s device in person.
- This option works only if the teacher has access to the devices or can physically meet with the students to assist in the initial setup of the app.
- Teachers can view and edit all of their students’ coursework in the Parent Portal.
Note: Teachers cannot give out their email and passwords to parents or students remotely without compromising the privacy of all of the students on their account.
Option 2: Transfer a student course and all permissions from the original account to a different account.
- Using Option 2 the original owner of a course can transfer ownership of the course, all access to the gradebook, and the ability to set up and manage the course on a student’s device to a different person (Transferee).
- Click HERE to use the tool and set the permission checkboxes as shown above.
- The new owner (Transferee) of the account must have a Teaching Textbooks account.
- This option will cause the original owner of the course to lose all access (both view and edit) to the student’s course and gradebook.
- If the student’s gradebook needs to be reported to an administrator or teacher, the gradebook can be printed or saved as a pdf by the transferee.
Remember: The owner of the course is the only one who can set up and manage the course app on the student’s device.
Option 3: Transfer the student’s course from the original owner’s account to a different account and share view and edit access to the student’s gradebook.
- Using Option 3, the original owner of a course can transfer ownership of the course, access to the gradebook, and the ability to set up and manage the course on a student’s device to a different person (Transferee) but can retain view and edit access to the gradebook.
- Click HERE to use the tool and set the permission checkboxes as shown above.
- The new owner (Transferee) of the account must have a Teaching Textbooks account.
- This option will cause the original owner of the course to lose their ability to set up and manage the app on the student’s device.
- Both parties can fully access (view and edit) the student’s gradebook through the Parent Portal.
Option 4: Transfer the students’ courses from the original owner’s account to a different account (Transferee) and give view-only access of the students’ gradebooks to the transferee.
- Using Option 4, the original owner of a course can transfer ownership of the course, the ability to set up and manage the course on a student’s device, and view-only access of the gradebook to a different person (Transferee) and retain view and edit access to the gradebook.
- Click HERE to use the tool and set the permission checkboxes as shown above.
- The new owner (Transferee) of the account must have a Teaching Textbooks account.
- This option will cause the original owner of the course to lose their ability to set up and manage the app on the student’s device.
- Both parties can view the student’s gradebook through the Parent Portal, however; only the original owner can edit the gradebook .
